Road Accidents
Watching the evening news on TV really make me squirm when there are road accident scenes that are so frightening, you wouldn’t dare go out on the street, afraid it might happen to you. This evening, a man riding in a motorcycle collided with a car and he was thrown under the burning car. Civilians were very quick on pulling him out without regard to their own safety as the car might explode any minute during those breath-taking incidents. As for the driver of the car, he should have good quality insurance provider at Wholesaleinsurance.net, so the next time it happens he is prepared.
False Text Advisory
There’s a text messages being passed around regarding the nuclear plant explosion that happened in Japan alerting people about the possible effect it will have once it reach the Philippine atmosphere. In our case we already received 2 messages, one from unidentified number and another one was from a friend who also received the message and forwarded it to everyone he knew.
Here are the text messages we received:
- BBC FLASHNEWS: Japan govt confirms radiation leak at Fukushima nuclear plants. Asian countries should take necessary precautions. Remain indoors for 24 hrs. Close doors n windows. Swab neck skin with betadine where thyroid area is, radiation hits thyroid first. Take extra precaution, radiation may hit Phil. at starting 4pm today. Pls send to your loved ones.
- A Power Plant in Japan Blasted earlier. Advisory,if in case it rains it’s acid, don’t let it touch your skin. Pls. pass…
Because of these messages it creates panic among parents and other students, there were schools that dismissed classes and let students go home early. News on TV immediately made announcements that those advisories were not true and there’s no cause for alarm. We really don’t know the reason of these people who created these messages, are they really concern or just want to a scare people after the very tragic incident in Japan. In any case they are not helping in easing the situation by spreading these unconfirmed reports.
Prescription for Condoms?
Looks like the battle between Pro-Life and Reproductive Health is still brewing. Here’s what on the news today. You need a doctor’s prescription before you can buy CONDOM. Yes, that’s right if you are living in the vicinity of Barangay Ayala-Alabang. It issued an ordinance penalizing sale and purchase of any substance or devices that are considered anti-conceptional without doctor’s prescription. Anyone caught violating the ordinance will be penalized from Php 1000 – 5000. Pharmacies within its jurisdiction are required to ask for prescription before selling condoms and other contraceptives.
In an interview with GMA News Online on Thursday, Barangay Ayala Alabang spokesperson Atty. Luis Sison cited Republic Act 5921, or the act regulating the practice of pharmacy in the country, which says “no drug or chemical product or device capable of provoking abortion or preventing conception… shall be delivered or sold to any person without a proper prescription by a duly licensed physician.”
“The Barangay… condemns the irresponsible and indiscriminate use of contraceptives as they undermine the solidarity of families by promoting premarital sex, giving rise to more fatherless children, more single mothers, more poverty, and more abortions when the contraceptives fail to prevent conception, and by causing a decline of legitimate marriages,” the ordinance said.
The ordinance was met with repulsionby some residents and health reproductive advocates, saying they didn’t know about the ordinance until later, and considered it as a violation of their rights to choose, health information and privacy.
“The ordinance is coercive as it forces residents to adhere to the wrong view that contraceptives are abortifacients and are dangerous to women’s health,” said Elizabeth Angsioco, national chairperson of the Democratic Socialists Women of the Philippines, in a statement.
“The Ayala-Alabang barangay council cannot be more authoritative than WHO on this matter. Fact is, even the country’s Bureau of Food and Drugs Administration (BFAD) recognizes the safety and efficacy of contraceptives with its approval to making contraceptives available,” she said.
Will this ordinance lasts? It wasn’t implemented yet but already receiving negative reactions from the residents.
